Hiya!
Way back in 2015, I graduated high school and instantly moved into my new education journey at college. For the three years I was at college I was studying Television Production and in my final year, 2017-2018, one of the classes we did was Scriptwriting. This is the class where Seven was born.
Scriptwriting is simply a story made for the screen. So, because I had never written a script before I was unsure how to write it. I started by writing a story, just as a normally would, and from there I formatted it into a script so that I could hand it in. And now, I have this story.
Seven is a story based on the idea that when you are dying, you relive your entire life in your final seven minutes.
I don’t know how much truth of fact there is behind this but it is something I remembering reading or hearing about and decided to go with it.
Once again, like Don’t Go, Seven was a script I produced during my time in college as part of my scriptwriting class. I can’t remember the brief we were given but this was a concept I had been wanting to play with.
The number seven comes up a lot in my life, or at least it is a special number to me, along with one, three, five and nine. I was born on the seventh of the fifth, so the number seven has a strong tie to me. Seven is also known as a magical number, that makes it sound like something silly but I mean it more serious than that. The number seven comes up a lot when researching the world of myths and legends. This can be seen in many instances, some being the story of creation where God created the world in seven days, or the seven deadly sins. Seven pops up in many ways to do with what can be known as the Otherworld. Still, seven was my favourite number before I knew all this.
INT. SHOP. DAY
In a local media shop in the small town named Dochas, IZZY is walking up and down various isles holding a stack of DVD’s.
IZZY
FU…Fudge!!!! FUDGING BOXES!!
Rubbing her side from the impact of the boxes she puts away the DVDs. Smiling at customers as they pass before turning her head into the shelves with an expression of mind-numbing boredom. Izzy becomes lost in her mind as she swears she can hear a woman counting.
LILITH
Hi, I’m looking for a movie called
The Dark is Rising. Or The Seeker?
I’ve seen it called both.
IZZY
Oh yeah! We have that! I love it! I’m
hoping to do a review on it soon.
Nothing major just a wee one on the
internet!
LILITH
Watch that Malum don’t come get you
for giving an opinion.
IZZY
Its actually Malum I’ll be making the
video for. I’m hoping to work with
them!
Stopping stone cold in her tracks the women has a concerned expression.
LILITH
I have to go. Thank you.
INT. SHOP. NIGHT
Izzy puts away the brush and shovel that she has just used to sweep the floor with while again be engulfed by the voice again.
UNKNOWN VOICE (V.O.)
1.2.3, 1.2.3, 1.2.3, 1.2.3…..
As the lights suddenly turn off one of her coworkers appears from the darkness and gives Izzy a fright.
AIDEN (LAUGHING)
That was brilliant! You’re so easy to
spook when you are in that daydream
of yours.
IZZY (LAUGHING)
I’ll get you back for that! Mark my
words!
AIDEN
Consider them marked.
Laughing as they lock the front door and go their separate ways disappearing into the night.
INT. IZZY & ETHAN HOME. NIGHT
A side light dimly lights the front door. CHEWY sprints to the door.
IZZY
Hiya, handsome boy! Ohhhh let me in,
silly. There we go! Now for cuddles!
Chewy and Izzy make it to the sofa with Chewy still frantically sniffing her.
IZZY (cont’d)
So, now that you have let me sit
down, you can help me look through
facebook and emails!
Chewy slumps down over her lap and the laptop appears. Weakly pushing that laptop away Izzy slides down in her seat. Tears starting to stream down her face. ETHAN appears in the doorway and Chewy is off like a lightning bolt to go and greet Ethan.
ETHAN
Helooooo! You’d think we leave you
for days with the way you greet us!
How was work? Heard anything back
from Malum, yet?
Izzy mutes the TV while Ethan and Chewy make their way to the sofa to join her.
IZZY
Nothing yet. Hopefully tomorrow. Work
was okay. I had a customer come in
who was lovely!
I spoke to her for a while but when I
mentioned Malum to her she went
solid…Must not like their reviews!
ETHAN
Yeah, probably! Some of their staff’s
opinions can be a bit harsh! You’ll
do great though! You can get across
tough points with the kindest of
words.
Ethan pulls Izzy in for a hug and Chewy gets himself
comfortable and the three of them relax and watch TV for the rest of night.
INT. IZZY & ETHAN HOME. NIGHT
Izzy and Ethan come home together, Chewy greeting them as he always does as they come in the door. She makes her way to the kitchen to put the shopping away before returning to the living room and joining Ethan on the sofa. Izzy pulls her laptop up and goes to her emails. Izzy sits suddenly frozen, her eyes fixated on her laptop and the mouse hovering over an email. An email from Malum.
ETHAN
OPEN IT! Why are you waiting around
to open it?!
Izzy frozen solid moves her stiff and rigid hand and clicks on the email. Her eyes are fixated again on the screen only moving back and forth as reading each line. A smile spreads across her face as tears start to fall down her red cheeks. Ethan wriggles around in his seat.
IZZY
I GOT THE JOB! I start next month!
OMG OMG OMG! I surely thought I
wasn’t going to get it!
Izzy pulls Ethan in for a hug and Chewy is bouncing around with pure excitement. Candles continue to flicker as the three of them sit comfortably on the couch.
INT. SHOP. NIGHT
Izzy and her coworker are closing up the shop again. As she walks around with her pile of DVD’s, quickly the pile grows smaller. With a significantly smaller pile, Izzy starts to dance to her own little song that she is humming.
Time passes, Izzy walks with her brush and shovel in hand. Turning the corner to where there lies a small pile of dirt.
UNKNOWN VOICE (V.O.)
1.2.3, 1.2.3, 1.2.3, 1.2.3…..
Izzy spins round to an empty aisle. Her eyes wide, her breathing is laboured and her body slightly shaking. She quickly and frantically sweeps up her dirt and puts everything away. Flying towards the front door she bumps into Aiden.
AIDEN
Where are you going, Speedy?
IZZY
Out of this place, I don’t plan on
spending a night here.
AIDEN
Awwwwww! I thought we could have a
sleepover!
IZZY
Yeah, with you counting to 3 over and
over again in the shadows? Yeah, no
thank you!
AIDEN
Counting? The only thing I have EVER
counted in this place is how many
minutes left until I can leave!
Laughing Aiden locks the door as Izzy gets her car keys out. Aiden walks away with a little hop in his step. Izzy watches him. Her head tilt slightly and her eyes scrunch up. Looking up she sees clouds starting to roll in and the rain starts to trickle down around her.
EXT. STREET OUTSIDE MALUM. DAY
It is a beautiful day, the sun is out and Izzy walks down the street standing tall with her hair tied back and a smile on her face as her hair sways to the beat of her steps. As she walks up to the front door of the Malum office building, she stops in her track and she takes a deep breath before walking through the door and up to the office.
INT. MALUM OFFICES. DAY
People buzzing about, talking quickly. She walks up to what looks like reception and sees a thin sickly-looking woman who looks in her 50s sitting there.
IZZY
Hiya! I was told to come to reception
to be shown to my office. Would I be
in the right place?
This sullen face, thin, sickly, evil-looking lady slowly looks up from her computer. Utter disgust sweeps across her face as she looks Izzy up and down before returning to her computer. Izzy looks around, she backs away slightly from the desk before walking back up to the desk and opens her mouth.
HAGATHA
Girl, you can either tell me your
name or you can leave.
IZZY
Oh…umm…Izz…I mean Isobell. My
name is Isobell.
Hagatha looks at Izzy even more disgusted than before. She types some things on her computer before rummaging through a drawer in her desk.
HAGATHA
Office 777.
Hagatha holds up a small key. Izzy takes the key and walks off.
Finally, Izzy is in her bare office. A simple desk sits against the wall next to the door. A window that looks out onto the city below with the fields and hills behind the city sits opposite the door.
MONTAGE BEGINS:
INT. OFFICE 777. DAY
Izzy is decorating her office. For many long days she makes the plain old office look colourful and full of life.
MONTAGE ENDS:
Izzy finishes her room. She set ups her camera and hit record.
EXT. DOCHAS STREETS. DAY
Dark clouds cover the small town of Dochas as the rain beats down onto the ground. Izzy is walking home from yet another day of work when she bumps into Ethan.
ETHAN
Oh, sorry! Guess dinner is no longer
surprise!
Izzy looking over the ground at all the shopping now spread over the floor.
IZZY
Well, you can still make dinner! I’ll
act surprised!
Izzy picks up some shopping that has fallen onto the road. Izzy looks back at Ethan and laughs. Turning back to look at the shopping she is trying to pick up she hears a screeching very close to her. Looking up quickly in the direction of the noise and she sees a car flying towards her completely out of control.
Izzy is pulled backwards and the car speeds past. She sees Ethan. He smiles and hugs her.
ETHAN
Never scare me like that again.
Izzy smiles at him weakly.
IZZY
Sorry….
Ethan looks down at Izzy looking into her eyes with a weak smile.
ETHAN
What are you sorry for?
IZZY
For having to scare you again.
Ethan looks at Izzy and starts to see it all. Her face is red and puffy from the tears streaming down her face. Ethan follows her tears down his cheeks. There is a large stick stuck in the ground and going right through Izzy’s abdomen. Ethan calls for emergency services. Izzy watches Ethan as he slowly fades from her vision.
INT. HOSPITAL. NIGHT
Hazed vision only coming into focus with every beep of the heart rate monitor. People are running around. There is clingy and clanking against one another.
Ethan waits in the waiting room, blood-soaked. Constantly moving his leg, head in his hands and crying. His hands fly onto the under part of the seat he is on and he lets out a blood curling scream.
Looking down on Izzy going closer to her a white flash occurs.
EXT. DOCHAS STREETS. DAY
The low sun shines beautifully over the small town of Dochas. Izzy is walking home from yet another lovely day of work when she bumps into Ethan.
ETHAN
Oh, sorry! Guess dinner is no longer
surprise!
Izzy looking over the ground at all the shopping now spread over the floor.
IZZY
Well, you can still make dinner! I’ll
act….surprised…
Izzy turns to Ethan and sees him as he was in the hospital, redfaced from crying, blood soaked. Izzy looks down and see the gapping wound in her abdomen. Ethan pulls her in for a hug. Tears streaming down both their faces.
ETHAN
Please…please don’t leave me…
IZZY
I love you….
Another white flash and everything fades to black. The heart rate monitor is heard getting slower and slower until there is one continuous beep. The sound of someone flat-lining.
Bye!
Be Strong & Keep Going!
