Scott and his pack return to Beacon Hills in the Teen Wolf Movie that will be released on Saturday, the 26th of January, 2023.
The show followed Scott McCall, a teenager who went out in the middle of the night to find a body with his best friend, Stiles Stilinski. While out there, Scott ends up alone, walking back to Stiles’ car, when he is attacked and bitten by a werewolf.
From then on, Scott, Stiles and their friends come together to protect Beacon Hills from the supernatural beings threatening to harm the town.
The film will be released six years after the MTV series ended in 2017 with six seasons under its belt. There was always talk of a revival through a film, new series or mini-series.
I always wanted to see the characters come to Beacon Hills, but now that it’s happening, I’m unsure how confident I am about it.

Storyline
I can gather from the Teen Wolf Movie trailers that the Nogitsune and Allison return. Allison appears to be what initially brings everyone back to Beacon Hills, and the Nogitsune is the overarching villain.
While the Nogitsune was the most famous villain in the series, I’m not sure how that same Fox can return to the storyline. I have ideas about how, but I’m unsure how well they would play out.
Looking more into the Nogitsune, is this the same fox from season three? It is possible. At the end of the final face-off against Void Stiles/The Nogitsune in season three, a fly escapes Void Stiles, and Issac catches it in a wooden box made from Mountain Ash.
So, who’s to say that the fly doesn’t somehow escape? That would then release the Nogitsune once again.
However, what if someone brought the fox back?
Gerard could have done that. It wouldn’t be the first he has used supernatural beings to get his way. Just think back to season two with the Kanima.
Unfortunately, it can’t be him. Since he was killed, then it would have to be someone else. Like a hunter who survived the end of season six? Tamora Monroe.
Similarly, if the Nogitsune is back, will there be other callbacks to other characters, beings and villains we met throughout the series? Like, will Dread Doctors somehow come back somewhere?
If not, is the storyline only going to focus on Allison and the Nogitsune as the significant callbacks?
Allison’s Return
I’ll start off by saying Allison wasn’t my favourite character. I understand her purpose in the first season, but the character constantly went back and forth between being by Scott’s side and standing with her family. Sometimes she stood with herself, but those times were just “woe is me, I’m young and dumb, forgive me”, even though she would never offer the same courtesy to other characters. So, I wasn’t her biggest fan, especially near the end. Even when I rewatch the show, I never warm up to her.
Regardless of that, her return to the story confuses me greatly.
Simply, how is she back?
Allison died during the second half of season three when the pack fought the Oni. The scene implicated that she was dead dead as Scott held her until her last breath.
In addition to this, resurrection was never really established in the series. There was an instance of a character coming back from the “dead”, but this character flatlined and was brought back on the spot. And all of them were supernatural beings, so they could withstand more than a human could. Since Allison was a human and in the hands of her friends and family, it can be assumed that she couldn’t have survived death like her supernatural counterparts and that she would have had a burial. Or at least some kind of deathly ceremony.
For this reason, I can’t understand how she has returned.
The writers may have written something brilliant into the storyline, but how without introducing new themes?
My theory is that the Nogitsune is the main villain, so, during season three, did the Nogitsune only make it appear as if Allison died?
During the fight at the school, there is a section where the pack interact with the Nogitsune’s world so that they can interact with an illusion of Allison.
It could be possible since, during that time, Stiles wasn’t conscious. Lydia finds him in the tunnels, unconscious, and she is there with him when Allison dies. Stiles doesn’t react to her Banshee scream when Lydia feels what’s happened. Plus, when Stiles is finally separated from the Fox, he’s knackered. He’s weak and on the verge of crumbling with each breath, so in the tunnels, his body could have essentially just shut down for a bit after what the Nogitsune took from him.
So, was the Nogitsune elsewhere during that time? If so, is this how Allison comes back? Somehow linked to the nine-tailed Fox who is hellbent on chaos, strife and revenge?
Nogitsune
My main issue with the Nogitsune is in the trailers; we see the Fox looking like the wrapped-up, burned version of the previous possession. Before Stiles, the Fox possessed Kira’s Mum’s Lover from the Army. So, why does it look like him again?
Obviously, the main reason is Dylan O’Brien (Stiles) hasn’t come back, but how will that be explained storywise? Like, they can’t just say, “lol, the Stiles skin wasn’t available”, so how? Time travel was never established.
Even though I’ve said there is a way for the Fox from Season Three to return, what if this is a different one? And it’s just using what it knows about the original Beacon Hills Nogitsune to terrorise everyone. Including using Allison.
This leads me to my Allison theory; she’s not real.
I think the Allison that we’ve seen in the trailers isn’t the real Allison. Resurrection was never an established theme, but illusions are. What if this Allison is an illusion by a wicked fox? It would make sense as to why she is so off in the trailers!
She’s vacant and detached. So much so that she attacks Derek, even after he calls out to her. The two of them left on bad terms. Derek was still so angry at the world, and there wasn’t a change to that until seasons four and five after she died. So, either the old or a new Nogitsune wouldn’t know that he had changed or if they would get along better now.
At least, that’s how I would fit it into the story as we already know it.
No Stiles? NO STILES!
Yes, no, Stiles.
This shocked many people since Stiles played a vital role during the series. Dylan O’Brien said (as far as I remember) that he didn’t want to come back as he was satisfied with where Stiles’ story had ended, which is fair. At the end of Season Six, Stiles studied at the FBI academy, using his natural investigation skills.
As much as it’s sad Dylan won’t be returning to Beacon Hills with Stiles in the Teen Wolf Movie, it’s not all that bad. We’ve already seen how the series and story runs without him there, and it does work. During Season Six, Dylan was also filming The Maze Runner series. Since he was the main character, Thomas, of The Maze Runner, he had a lot of filming and wasn’t in Teen Wolf that much.
The film will run the same way as Season Six, very well, but missing him at certain moments.
I’m sure I read that Dylan has let the film borrow Stiles’ Jeep, so some hints of Stiles will be there. Presumably, Scott will have it in the story as Stiles gifted it to him,
Is it worth it?
Finally, is the Teen Wolf Movie worth it?
Like, as much as many people wanted more from the world, including the cast and crew, but is this it?
My first concern when I heard of the comeback was, “is this for old times’ sake or a cash grab?”
Don’t get me wrong; I’m sure loads of cast and crew are returning for the nostalgia and work. It’s the time frame that makes me feel strange. It feels all very sudden. There was no mention of a film being a solid possibility, then suddenly there is a script, and hopefully, Tyler Posey will come back and reprise his role of Scott, etc.
That part worries me.
The script was hoping for everyone to come back. So, with Dylan and Arden Cho not returning, how does that affect the script? How much did Stiles and Kira impact the storyline? Are their absences going to be noticeable? Since the script was written first, I hope it could be rewritten or flexible enough that it can be moulded to fit the cast lineup.
My other concerns come from the storyline. As seen in this post, my main concern is the story. So, will the movie ruin the storyline?
You just need to look at the Wizarding World to see this concern. The Cursed Child and Fantastic Beast stories are widely disliked and considered non-canon amongst fans. This is largely because they tamper with the established storyline and rules of the world so badly that certainly, for The Cursed Child, they feel like fanfiction.
This will only be a concern if they introduce themes and concepts that haven’t already been established in the universe. It’s a tricky one, and very limiting, but since they made it a well-rounded universe before it ended, it can work without adding anything.
In addition to this, I heard near the start when it was announced that there were talks of there being five films in total. It was said that if this film did well, four more films would be made to make a film series. This sounds precisely like Fantastic Beasts. And that’s what scares me the most.
Conclusion
In the end, I will obviously watch the Teen Wolf Movie. The show was a key part of my teenage and young adult years, so I want to see where it goes. However, I do have concerns about where they will take it. I’m looking forward to seeing what callbacks are made and how they fit Allison back in. I’m hoping they play off of how Season Six ended instead of creating an entirely new storyline. I also don’t think introducing new concepts is a good idea. Instead, keeping to the current concepts will pull a more positive pull from old fans and bring in new ones.
