Progress Questions

What are the most important results I obtained the last week?

I’m not as far behind as I thought I was. I thought I had much more reading, but one book is the sweet spot for most dissertations. Since I’m doing creative writing, my dissertation is split into two sections. I think it’s 10,000 words of a story and 5,000 of an analysis. So, I’ll either use the comparison of the original Peter Pan and Christina Henry’s Lost Boy or just Christina Henry’s Lost Boy. I’ll decide once I speak to my supervisor and see what he thinks is best.

Did I deviate from the planning of the last week? If so, why?

I don’t think so. My goal was to get all my class reading done and then figure out if I was behind on my dissertation and to work through what was on Canvas, and I did that.

What are my most important goals for the coming week?

I want to define my analysis question a bit more. I think the Remix and the Seven Archetypes are too much. In the end,I might just focus on Remix Culture. I also want to come up with a synopsis, both a short and in-depth one.

What do I have to do to meet these goals?

For the story side, I need to work out who I want my focus to be on and get a more concrete idea of the storyline. From there, I can work out the rough synopsis and plot points.

For the analysis, I will need to decide if working without the Seven Archetypes section is the better option and probably contact my supervisor and ask him what he thinks is best. Right now, I think going forth without the Archetypes is better. I have such a small word count for the analysis that I don’t think I can fit both sides. 5,000 words aren’t that much when you start to really think about it.

What can I do to overcome any hurdles on the way?

Set aside dedicated time for the dissertation, which doesn’t involve working through the Canvas. This can allow me to take the Canvas material and work purely on getting ahead with the dissertation.

I’m also highly prone to burnout, so I must keep that in mind and make accommodations to give myself breaks and listen to what I need.
